Joomla! Tuesdays coming to two cities near you

Joomla Tuesdays are coming back. And for those who continue to doubt that someone with an art history degree can run a web site? We want you there.

When we built Soapbox, PICnet’s low-cost, easy-to-set-up content management system exclusively for Non-Profits, we used the Joomla! content management system as its foundation. There were lots of reasons for that. But the main was that Joomla’s — and, by extension, Soapbox’s — universally acclaimed ease-of-use makes it a great fit for many nonprofits, who often make do without a large technical staff.

In fact, many attribute Joomla’s startling growth to just that: ease of use. Ease of use is partially why it won Packt Publishing’s Open Source Content Management System Award last month.

But a lot of people still don’t believe us when we tell them that complete technophobes can, using Soapbox, fully administer their organizations’ dynamic web site — even if, at home, their VCRs still flash 12:00.

So, PICnet is relaunching Joomla Tuesdays. Last summer, we held several sessions where PICnet invited anyone to a free one-hour introduction to Joomla (no techie — or even VCR clock-programming — experience required).

And we’re starting it up again in January of 2007, in two cities: New York and Washington, DC. Contact us if you’re interested in dropping by. Below, a description of the event from last summer’s posting at Upcoming.org:

“For people looking for a content management system that’s user-friendly, winner of multiple open source awards, and has a developer and user community larger than nearly any other open source CMS available, now’s your chance to learn about Joomla!

PICnet will be hosting a FREE one-hour introductory overview of Joomla, including an introduction to the Joomla administrator, sample Joomla sites, and an understanding of where Joomla’s user-friendly system fits in the open source CMS market.”

That is a great idea. I wish they had that here in the Eugene, Oregon area. Truly.

Perhaps you could record such events and post them as a streaming tutorial every Tuesday as well on the net to those out of reach of NY and Washingtion DC

    Hi Robert,

Ben from PICnet here. You have a great idea with recording and streaming the Joomla Tuesday sessions. Would be helpful at least until we open a Eugene, Oregon office. :)

In any case I’m going to kick this idea up the chain and see whether we can make it happen. I’ll let you know if and when we can do this.

    Thanks again

    Ben
