Home for the Holidays – CUCS’s Migration Story

Yesterday we launched the new and improved Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) site. CUCS has been our client since 2008 and has found a new home just in time for the holidays on Soapbox 2.x. With this migration from Soapbox 1.x they are going to be able to take advantage of all of the great features that are now available, including:

  • easy-to-use administrative interface
  • improved WYSIWYG editor
  • slideshow service
  • search engine optimization (SEO) benefits, such as search engine friendly URLs
  • …and more!

Paul Howard, CUCS’s Associate Director of Training and Consulting Services worked closely with us on this project. He says,

“The thing I am looking forward to the most about our new site is the ability to add slideshows to our website and use customized templates to help set CUCS apart.”

Spot the Difference: Benefits of Upgrading to Soapbox 2

Since 2006, our robust Non-Profit Soapbox platform has served more than 350 organizations, empowering them with the quality, easy-to-use, flexible, affordable (we could go on…) web tools they need to carry out their missions. Soapbox has gone through several important milestones in its history:

2006: launch of the non-profit community’s very own hosted web platform, Soapbox 1.0, optimized for their specific needs, based on years of best practice captured by PICnetters

2008: launch of Soapbox 2.0, the next-generation of Soapbox goodness with a slew of hot new features: an upgraded CMS framework, integration with Google Analytics, human readable URLs, and more

2010: development of Soapbox integration with the world’s leading CRM tool, Non-profits are no longer left behind in the wake of technological advancements, and instead they now enjoy a full-fledged integration of a website CMS with Salesforce for donations, events, and more.

2011: beta launch of Soapbox Engage, bringing the power of Salesforce-integrated websites to the masses

Technology advances so quickly that sometimes it’s fun to stop and take a look back at how far we’ve come—for the web as a whole and for our beloved Soapbox platform in particular. Here’s a trip down memory lane for the recently upgraded Virginia Water Environment Association (VWEA) website. We’re super thrilled to have grown up alongside VWEA, and even more excited to upgrade them a new site! Read more »

Advancing CORE Group online so they can advance health worldwide

CoreGroup_screenshotIn the midst of the health care reform debate in our own country, there are still many global health crises out there waiting to be fixed. At PICnet, we work with many clients who strive towards improving global health through prevention, partnerships and awareness. One organization who fits this bill that we recently were honored to help is CORE Group, a non-profit that partners with more than 50 other health-oriented organizations to share knowledge and help advance the community health approach around the world.

CORE Group’s website was in need of a visual upgrade, more functionality, and cleaner navigation and usability. PICnet created a new design for the site – phase 1 of the project. As the site is mostly informational, there isn’t too much interactive or dynamic functionality at this time. But in phase 2, PICnet will help punch up the site with donation processing and some other cool features to give the organization a real upgrade online.

We’re really pleased with how the project is going so far, and it’s been a pleasure to work with CORE Group. They do some awesome work collaborating and sharing information for non-profits working in health care in developing countries – so we’re glad to be able to help them achieve this goal in a more effective way online. Thanks to everyone involved in getting this project off the ground! We look forward to completing the next phase.

Natural Leadership

thumb_inlSummer is a time to be outdoors, enjoying the sun, sand, woods, and water. Everyone enjoys getting outside and appreciating Mother Nature – so it was only fitting that we recently helped the Institute for Nature & Leadership on an upgrade for their website.

In July, we were asked by the organization to help upgrade their original Joomla site to Non-Profit Soapbox for a couple of reasons: they wanted easier management and upkeep for their content and basic commerce function, improved long-term maintenance and support, and more creative and updated design features like the slideshow that’s now on their homepage.

The entire project was done in just a week – all in time for an event promotion for the organization, so not only was it easy, but it was prompt!

The Institute for Nature & Leadership is a small (team of three!) non-profit organization that assists individuals and organizations in aligning their goals and actions with values inspired by nature. This includes educational events and seminars, consulting, and nature-based leadership management.

Thank you to IN&L for giving us the opportunity to help you out so quickly, and for making it easy to achieve your goals!
